podcast walkingthroughthebible

This week on the Walking Through the Bible Series we cover 1 and 2 Kings. Kings continues the narrative started in Samuel, tracing the rise and fall of King Solomon and the division of the kingdom into Israel and Judah. It covers a period of more than 400 years and was likely written between 560 and 540 BC. The purpose of the book is to record the history of the kings of Israel and Judah and to provide lessons from their successes and failures. Key stories we cover are: Solomon's wisdom, the building of the temple, the prophets Elijah and Elisha, and the reigns of various kings. The Book of 2 Kings concludes with the final overthrow and deportation of the people of Israel to Assyria and the people of Judah to Babylon.
